Long Dista

The group Long Dista was formed in late 2003 when friends Oren, Byron, and Jason decided that all of their jamming together was worthwhile to share with the world… or at least Austin. Long Dista was the unofficial kickoff band for SXSW in 2004 playing at the Capitol Drafthouse on 6th St. The band recorded a self-titled album during the summer of 2004. The music is all instrumental and is best described as alternative funk rock. The sound is like a mix of 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Rage Against the Machine. The band got its name when Oren happened to pick up a scrap outside of a Sprint store in Austin. The scrap was a broken sign that at one point in time said Long Distance, but clearly Oren got the Long Dista part of the sign.
