Our 1st Anniversary

May 4, 2011

Today, May 1st is a very special day in our lives… On May 1, 2008, I asked Emily to be my girlfriend. She thought I was cute and said yes. One year later on May 1, 2009, I asked Emily to marry me. She said that she would be honored and yes. Then, you guessed it, on May 1, 2010, Emily and I got married. She said “I do,” and I said “Yes, I do.”

And so, today we are celebrating our first anniversary. We are so happy and blessed. We both slept in this morning, which was very nice. We started looking at pictures from last year’s dream-come-true wedding. Then, Emily made some yummy waffles. After eating the yummy waffles, we decided to go to one of our favorite places in Houston, Memorial Park, so we could go for a walk. It was a fairly nice day outside, but the drought that most of Texas experienced in April continued on. Upon completing our walk, we went to PetCo to get our cat some more food and then we went to Whole Foods to get us a nice bite to eat. We got a baguette and brie, tasty kale salad with a avocado and purple onion, a balsamic vinagrette quinoa with mushrooms and sundried tomatoes, little yellow cherry tomatoes, strawberries, the best-ever blackberries, and chocolate rugalach, all for our picnic at home. Oh, and I got Emily a beautiful tropical bouquet of flowers to remind her of our wonderful honeymoon in Tahiti last year.

After our picnic, Emily gave me my anniversary gift. I absolutely loved it. She gave me personalized stationery and best of all, a really fancy Swiss Army designer watch that I can wear to the opera and everywhere. It was such a great gift because she followed both the traditional and modern 1st anniversary gift ideas. I told her that I would give her gift to her at the conclusion of dinner.

Before dinner, we watched the beginning of our wedding video and got ready for our nice night out, which was a surprise to Emily. All that I told her was that the meal would be an experience and that was the theme of the night. So, we got dressed up, and I surprised Emily by taking her to dinner at Fuad’s in Houston. She had no clue that we were going there, but by the end of the night, she was so happy that we did. Fuad’s is a very unique place in Houston in that there are no menus, so that means that they will make nearly anything that you want. If you want pizza, a burger, salmon, steak, whatever, you got it at Fuad’s. Emily was amazed and intrigued. We tried to test their limits by requesting some poisson cru, a delicacy we got on our honeymoon last year, but they hadn’t heard of it. So instead, we ordered ceviche for an appetizer. It was sooooo good. For our second course, we shared a tomato capresesque dish. For our entrees, Emily ordered the restaurant’s signature dish, which was a rack of lamb that they prepared in front of our table, and I got beef bourguignon. So delicious. Our just dessert was the house specialty Banana Fosters. It was truly a memorable meal and such a unique and romantic experience. Oh, and for those that are curious, my gift to Emily was season tickets to the Houston Ballet. She loved it.

After dinner, we drove home and watched the rest of our wedding video and ate a few bites from the top of our wedding cake. L’chaim.
